Pieces of music you think go together usually mean they suit one of your particular mood. So you've created all these Playlists in which you've dropped all these songs that you think go together. It's a good start, but you can do much better by using Smart Playlists, and a good way to take full advantage of smart Playlists is to use Comments. Here's a basic exercise to grasp the basics of smart Playlists:
Open iTunes and make sure the "Comment" column is visible.Pick a song without any comment and slowly double click on it to edit it. Then add "Cool" as show in the screen grabs.
Next choose "New Smart Playlist" from the File Menu in iTunes. You will then have access to the preferences of the Smart Playlist you're about to create. Choose "Comment" from the first drop down menu, then "contains" from the second and type in "Cool". Careful, Comments ARE CASE SENSITIVE! Click on "Ok". You've created your first Smart Playlist!. Now pick another song and add "Cool" to it's Comments, you'll notice it will be automatically added to the Smart Playlist.
Once you've become acquainted with smart Playlists you'll find unlimited combinations of criteria to fine tune your library. Here are a couple of them that can be useful :
