Setup an Ad Hoc Network

In the event where there is no available or open WiFi network for sharing between a computer and a device using FileApp, sharing can made possible using an ‘ad hoc’ network.
Follow the corresponding step to the type of computer below:

For Mac OS X

  1. Open the “Airport Menu” from the top right of your screen
  2. Click on “Create Network”
  3. Enter a name, and a password if you wish to. Leave the Channel Field as is
  4. Click OK

Connect your iPhone or iPod Touch to this network

For Windows Vista

  1. Open the “Start menu” and click “Control Panel”
  2. Click “Network and Internet”
  3. Click “Network and Sharing Center”
  4. Click “Set up a connection or network” from the left side of the window
  5. Choose “Set up a wireless ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network.”
  6. Click Next
  7. Click Next
  8. Enter a name
  9. Set up a password for your network if you wish
  10. Click Next and Close
  11. Click Close

Connect your iPhone or iPod Touch to this network.

For Windows XP

  1. Open the “Start menu”, and click “My Network Places”
  2. Click “View network connections” from the left side of the window
  3. Find your wireless network connection, right click on it, and click Properties
  4. Click the Wireless Networks tab
  5. Click Advanced
  6. Select “Computer-to-computer (ad hoc) networks only” then click Close
  7. Click Add
  8. Give your network a name (this is what you will connect to later on your iPhone)
  9. Set up a password for your network if you wish. Uncheck the box next to “The key is provided for me automatically” if you want to enter a password. Select Disabled in the Data encryption drop down menu if you do not wish to have a password
  10. Click OK
  11. Click OK
