Connect Using FileZilla

FileZilla Free FTP Client for Wi-Fi

Users willing to connect their device via Wi-Fi should consider adopting a proper FTP client, as neither Microsoft Windows nor Mac OS X do support FTP with sufficient reliability.

FileZilla is an Open Source, cross platform free FTP application. It is highly reliable and in most cases would serve better the needs of extensive and/or advanced users or people having connections issues using standard procedures under Windows.

This is a good way also to rule most issues related to the operating system in troubleshooting Wi-Fi connection issues.

The latest version is available for free on FileZilla Project Website.

Quick Guide: How to Start Using FileZilla

  • Download and install FileZilla
  • Launch the application; a browser showing numerous windows will appear:
  • FileZilla Panel View
    FileZilla Panel View

    1. The Address bar is where to enter the address displayed at the top of FileApp’s ‘Sharing’ screen
    2. The top window is an activity window showing what FileZilla is doing in real time.
    3. The left window is a display of your computer file system (split vertically): the complete file tree above and the current folder below
    4. The right window is a display of the FileApp file system (split vertically): the application file folder above and the current folder below
    5. The bottom pane is a status window logging the transfer activity.
  • To connect, go to the address bar (1) and enter the bare numerical IP address in the ‘Host’ field (do not type the prefix ‘ftp://’ nor the suffix: ’2121′)
Do not enter Username or Password if you haven’t set one.
Enter the suffix ’2121′ which corresponds to the port used for the connection.
  • Then press the ‘Quickconnect’ button.
  • That’s it, you can start sharing by dragging files, documents and folders from left to right and right to left: it copies them from computer to iPhone and conversely!
